Following word last week of actor Ethan Hawke’s plans to re-team with his Hamlet writer-director Michael Almereyda for a second William Shakespeare adaptation, Cymbeline, comes word, via The Hollywood Reporter, that Ed Harris has signed on to play the titular King.
The film, which begins shooting in New York City on August 19, offers a contemporary update of the original text with the romantic narrative set against a violent street war between crooked cops and a drug-dealing motorcycle gang.
Harris, who recently starred in Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain, can soon be seen in Boon Joon-ho’s sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer.
Cymbeline will be produced and financed fully by Michael Benaroya and Benaroya Pictures, while producer Anthony Katagas, who worked on Hamlet, will also produce for Keep Your Head Productions.
