Netflix Options Three Novels from YA Author Sarah Dessen

Netflix has optioned a trio of novels from Sarah Dessen, a YA author who’s had several titles land on the New York Times bestseller list.

The first project slated for adaptation will be Along for the Ride, which won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best YA Fiction. The book tells the story of Auden, a kid who’s having trouble sleeping slept at night since her parents’ marriage started falling apart. When she spends a spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family at a charming beach town, a job at a clothing boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She also meets the charismatic loner Eli, a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town.

The other two Dessen titles that will be options are The Lullaby, about a guarded girl who breaks her ‘don’t date musicians’ rule when she meets a musician named Dexter, and Once and For All, which follows a wedding planner with no time for a romance of her own.

Screen Arcade’s Bryan Unkeless and Eric Newman will produce the trio of films, with Alyssa Rodrigues serving as executive producer.

Dessen’s books have been published in over 30 countries and have sold millions of copies worldwide. She is the recipient of the 2017 Margaret A. Edwards Award from the American Library Association for outstanding contribution to young adult literature for her literary work.
