Bloody Disgusting has brought word that the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 horror hit A Quiet Place, which is being helmed by John Krasinski (Jack Ryan) for the second time, is moving its release date up two months from its original May 15, 2020 to March 20!
The sequel, which is being written by Krasinski, will continue the story of the Abbott family in the alien apocalypse, featuring the reprisals of Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns), Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck), and Noah Jupe (Ford v. Ferrari) in their roles, with Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) also joining the cast.
Despite initial plans for the sequel to not follow the Abbott family from the original film, it appears the story for the sequel may have a more established plan to bring them back now that negotiations have begun to bring back the three cast members.
THR previously reported that the only hitches in the potential casting would be the fact that the story is expected to create a bigger budget for the project since the first one only cost around $17 million to make and grossed over $340 million globally. Simmonds and Jupe are under option at the studio, and therefore could receive pay bumps, while Blunt’s salary is generally in the seven figures. Blunt was reportedly willing to take a significant pay cut given the predecessor was her husband’s passion project, so it’s possible she will take a pay cut once again.
A Quiet Place is produced by Michael Bay (Transformers) and his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (Ouija, The Purge, Texas Chainsaw Massacre), from a spec script by Bryan Woods & Scott Beck which was rewritten by Krasinski. The sequel is currently slated to hit theaters on May 15, 2020.
