Production is well underway for Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence, and the first behind-the-scenes look at the film has just been released (via The Film Stage). Below you’ll find an image, artwork and a set video from the film with Pfister and stars Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall.
The LA Times is reporting that Transcendence will be co-financed by Chinese company DMG Entertainment. But, unlike previous DMG-financed films like Iron Man 3 and Looper, Transcendence will not have any China exclusive footage. It will likely see a release in the country thanks to the deal, however.
The film’s plot involves a scientist whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the worlds first machine that can think for itself. Depp will play a scientist named Will who is trying to create artificial intelligence. Will’s wife, Evelyn, is another scientist and the pair work with a third, Max. From there, the film’s plot is said to focus on, “singularity, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.”
Written by Jack Paglen and also starring Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Morgan Freeman and Cole Hauser, Transcendence will be released in 2D and IMAX theaters on April 18, 2014.
