DreamWorks Eyes The Grapes of Wrath

A new feature film version of John Steinbeck’s Pulitzer Prize-winning tome The Grapes of Wrath is in the early planning stages. Deadline reports that DreamWorks is in talks to develop the film with Steven Spielberg tentatively attached to produce.

Previously adapted for the screen by director John Ford in 1940, The Grapes of Wrath follows the Joads, a poor farming family, during the Great Depression.

The outlet notes that Spielberg is interested only in producing the new film and that he is not seeking to direct. His next directorial project, American Sniper, is getting ready for production at Warner Bros. with Bradley Cooper in the lead.
