David Meunier is the latest name said to be joining the cast of director Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer. Deadline reports that the “Justified” actor will join Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo and Marton Csokas in the big screen take on the 1980’s television show.
The original series was created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. It starred Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a private detective with a lot of contacts who is available for hire if you have a problem that you don’t know how to solve.
In the movie, McCall (Washington) is living a quiet life while working at a Home Depot when one of his acts of kindness towards a prostitute (Moretz) gets him embroiled with the Russian mob. Leo will play McCall’s former supervisor who now provides him with information.
Meunier will play Slavi, a Russian pimp for whom Moretz’s character works.
The movie was written by Richard Wenk with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch producing through Escape Artists, alongside Alex Siskin, Mace Neufeld, Tony Eldridge, Michael Sloan, and Washington.
The Equalizer will begin production this month in Boston.
