Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is teaming up Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B to bring the crime thriller The Silent Patient to the big screen, per The Hollywood Reporter. The film is on the debut novel from Alex Michaelides, which reached the number one spot on the New York Times Bestseller list.
Like the book, the film follows Alicia Berenson, a famous painter married to a popular fashion photographer who seemingly leads a picturesque life in London. One evening, her husband returns home late, and she shoots him five times in the face, then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to give any kind of explanation causes the price of her art skyrockets while she resides at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London. A criminal psychotherapist named Theo Faber waits a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to solve the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations which threatens to consume him.
