Gerard Butler Now in Talks for Universal’s The Raven

Universal Pictures’ next big sci-fi action movie, based on Ricardo de Montreuil and Antonio Perez’s 2010 short film The Raven, is starting to gear up with the new announcement of a possible star.

At one point, Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) was in talks for the role but now it seems like negotiations have moved on to Scottish actor Gerard Butler, whose success with the recent action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen has made him a hot commodity in Hollywood once again.

Adapted from the short by Michael Gilio and Justin Marks with plans for De Montreal to direct, the movie would have Butler playing a man with remarkable powers who is being chased by the government and the military who both want those powers working for them.

The film will be produced and co-financed with Universal’s long-time partner Gold Circle who recently had a hit with Pitch Perfect and are currently in production on the Scot Armstrong comedy Search Party. Paul Brooks will produce for Gold Circle with COO Scott Niemeyer executive producing. Mark Wahlberg will also produce alongside Steve Levinson will produce for Leverage, who originally brought the project to the studio along with Underground Films’ Nick Osborne, Trevor Engelson and Oly Obst as exec. producers.
