Actress Zoe Saldana has been doing the rounds promoting J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness in which she reprises the role of Nyota Uhura, but she’s already lined up her next big science fiction movie playing Gamora in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy and there’s a lot of curiosity about how she’ll be portrayed.
When Total Film sat down with her for an interview, she told them that Gamora would indeed be herself in green make-up rather than using any sort of CG or performance capture, which is a viable question since Saldana famously played the performance capture role of Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar.
The thought of Saldana as the barely-clad green warrior Gamora in the flesh is probably enough to give teenage boys a heart attack, but it’s a good sign that Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy is in good hands with James Gunn.
It’s scheduled to start production in a few weeks for an August 1, 2014 release date.
You can watch the interview with Saldana talking specifically about “Guardians” below. EW has also debuted new concept art from the film, which you can check out underneath. In it, we see a young Quill?s first close encounter on Earth, before he is whisked away to the far reaches of the galaxy.
