Ever since Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson stepped into the fifth Fast and Furious film, he’s been seen as an integral part of the street-racing franchise. However, the former wrestler says his character, Hobbs, won’t be in the upcoming Fast and Furious 9, and he explains to MTV (via CinemaBlend) that the new spinoff Hobbs and Shaw has a little bit to do with it.
“The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand. As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting. But who knows, with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because Look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s still unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.“

If Fast and Furious 10 is supposed to conclude the unlikely hit film franchise, having Hobbs finish all his ‘unfinished business’ with Vin Diesel’s character, Dom, would make some sense. Unless the franchise is going to continue to produce offshoots until Hobbs and Dom get their own romantic comedy to work things out, anything’s possible.
In the meantime, The Rock is hard at work on Hobbs and Shaw with co-star Jason Statham. We’ll have to wait and see how everyone’s story will be handled as the Fast and Furious franchise moves fastly and furiously into the future.
