Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez Take Hands of Stone

Although Gael Garcia Bernal and Al Pacino were formerly said to be up for the same roles, Deadline is now reporting that Edgar Ramirez and Robert De Niro are set to headline the upcoming Hands of Stone.

Based on the life of boxing champ Robert Duran, Hands of Stone will feature Ramirez as Duran and De Niro as his trainer, Ray Arcel.

Duran is particularly famous for a fight with Sugar Ray Leonard where, in the last few seconds of the final round, Duran turned around and exited the ring, saying “no mas.”

De Niro, who starred in one of cinema’s most famous boxing stories, Raging Bull, can next be seen in the ensemble comedy The Big Wedding before stepping back into the ring for Grudge Match. Ramirez, meanwhile, will play Simon Bolivar in the upcoming Libertador.

Hands of Stone will be directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz, who will also produce with Jay Wiesleder.
