Reese Witherspoon’s production banner Hello Sunshine has teamed up with MGM to produce a film adaptation of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Deadline reports that Gail Honeyman’s best-selling novel will be scripted by Liz Hannah, best known for penning Steven Spielberg’s The Post.
The novel was optioned by Hello Sunshine back in May of 2017 as a potential starring role for Witherspoon. It was also the featured noel in Witherspoon’s book club back in June of 2017. She will co-produce the project alongside Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Levy Neustadter.
Eleanor Oliphant tells the story of a woman who goes from living a lonely life to realizing the only way to survive is to open your heart. The novel was published by the Penguin Random House imprint Pamela Dorman Books. It went on the sell over 1 million copies in the U.S. and Canada with a long run on the bestseller lists.
“Gail has created an incredibly smart, funny, and eccentric character who beautifully demonstrates the ways vulnerability and human connection can so deeply enrich your life. Eleanor’s journey is utterly extraordinary. To know her is to love her, and I’m so excited to team up with MGM and Liz Hannah to bring this unbelievably gorgeous character to life on-screen,” Witherspoon said about the project.
In addition to Eleanor Oliphant, Witherspoon is currently set to star alongside Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell in a morning show drama series for Apple. She’s also producing the upcoming Vietnam drama League of Wives via Hello Sunshine.
