Halle Berry Suits Up for X-Men: Days of Future Past

Ever since Matthew Vaughn departed the sequel to his hit X-Men: First Class, replacement (and original) X-Men helmer Bryan Singer has been working like a madman to get his old band of merry mutants back together. Hugh Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore, have all signed on for the film, along with First Class stars James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult.

The latest once and future X-Man to head back to head back to 1407 Graymalkin Lane is weather witch Storm, a.k.a. Halle Berry, who ComingSoon.net quizzed on the film when we spoke to her this past weekend about her new thriller The Call (opening this Friday, March 8th). The good news is that Berry indicated the film will take its cue (and not just its name) from the classic X-Men storyline (introduced in Volume 1 of Uncanny X-Men, issues 141 and 142, back in 1981), about a nightmarish future in which mutants are hunted and herded into concentration camps. Check out our interview below.

CS: What can you say about your role in X-Men: Days of Future Past?

Halle Berry:
That I’m gonna be there. For sure.

CS: Is there anything you didn’t get a chance to do in the first three X-Men films that you’d like to do in this one?

Berry:
You know, I always love to do more as Storm. That’s a character that I really love and people seem to respond well to me playing Storm.

CS: She seemed to become more like you as the series progressed.

Berry:
She did?

CS: Her personality approached yours a little bit more. To the extent that you’re a weather-manipulating mutant.

Berry:
Okay! [Laughs.]

CS: Are you familiar with the comic issues this one is based on?

Berry:
Yes.

CS: So you’ve had a chance to look them over?

Berry:
Yes. A little bit, yes.

CS: We’re looking forward to seeing you back in the role.

Berry:
Thank you!

Singer has, meanwhile, chimed in with his own thoughts on the matter, posting confirmation of Berry’s casting on his Twitter feed.

“Couldn’t be more excited that [Halle Berry] has joined the cast of [X-Men: Days of Future Past],” he writes. “Hopefully she can improve the weather in Montreal.”

X-Men: Days of Future Past, also starring Peter Dinklage and Omar Sy, will hit theaters on July 18, 2014.
