Hellboy Day Celebrates the Comic’s 25th Anniversary in March 2019

Mike Mignola’s Hellboy will be celebrating the 25th anniversary with Hellboy Day on March 23, 2019, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. ComingSoon.net just happened to have an exclusive interview today with original Hellboy and Hellboy II star Ron Perlman, and we asked the actor if Big Red was sitting next to him what would he say to Hellboy on his birthday?

“Can I have a hit of that cigar, bro?” Perlman quipped. He then jokingly added, “It might be Hellboy day for Mike but it won’t be for me!”

Mignola and Dark Horse Comics have plans to publish the 25th-anniversary edition of Hellboy: Seed of Destruction No. 1, the first Hellboy comic, complete with a new cover by Mignola and artist Dave Stewart. The comic will be sold at U.S. stores participating in Hellboy Day, and you can check out the cover in the gallery below!

“When I created Hellboy way back when, I never imagined he would be around long enough to celebrate a 25th anniversary,” Mignola told the outlet. “I’m grateful to the writers, artists, colorists and letterers who have joined me in telling Hellboy stories for all these years. And, of course, so grateful to the fans. This thing could not exist without their support, and it’s a pleasure every time I get to go out to meet them.”

Dark Horse Comics will also be releasing special Hellboy Day promotional material for retailers. This includes a tattoo sheet, a Right Hand of Doom bookmark, a window cling, an open/close store sign, and a new version of the Mignolaverse timeline that first debuted at New York Comic-Con. The publisher will also be offering a promotional pricing on its Hellboy backlist. Stores that take advantage of the promotion will be entered into a drawing for special prize packages from Dark Horse.

A Hellboy Day signing with Mignola is scheduled at Earth 2 Comics in Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles on March 23. Neil Marshall’s Hellboy, starring David Harbour, Ian McShane, and Milla Jovovich, will arrive in theaters just a few weeks later on April 12, 2019.

Another way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hellboy is by retweeting David Harbour’s latest Twitter challenge below, in which Hellboy himself agreed to officiate the wedding of SYFY Wire’s Carly Lane and ComingSoon.net’s managing editor (and massive Hellboy fan) Spencer Perry in March in full Hellboy make-up if the tweet gets 166k retweets. Mignola has also agreed to read a poem at the service!
