Reissues

The Last House on the Left

One of the most important films in the shaping of modern-day horror, Wes Craven’s brutal 1972 revenge flick is getting the red carpet treatment from Arrow Video in this gorgeous 3-disc release. In the box set you’ll find a disc that includes the original unrated cut with a short and funny intro by the late Craven, who calls it the closest to his vision. Disc 2 includes the Krug & Company cut as well as the R-rated cuts, with a third disc that’s a CD of the original soundtrack. There’s also a gorgeous fold-out poster with both the original theatrical art and a flipside with the disc’s cover art. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a think booklet containing an illustrated essay by Stephen Thrower. As for the movie itself, it has a certain amount of grain you would associate with any grindhouse release of that era, but overall looks and sounds better than any print or other home video release you’re ever likely to find.

The Mountain of the Cannibal God

Shameless has put out a new, 2K restored Region 2 Blu-ray of Sergio Martino’s trashterpiece starring Ursula Andress and Stacey Keach, in which a white woman ventures into the New Guinea jungle in search of her scientist husband who’s vanished.
