The dark tale of Beautiful Creatures follows the story of Ethan Wate, who is a sophomore in high school. He lives in the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina and wants to live anywhere but there.
His mom died and he lives with his dad who rarely leaves the house as a result. He’s looked after by his overprotective nanny and dreams of moving to a big city.
Things look grim until Lena, the new girl in school, moves to Gatlin. He’s immediately taken with her and the two become instant friends. He soon falls in love with her not knowing she has secrets.
She and her family are casters (witches) and on her 16th birthday, she will find out if she will be good or evil – she has no say, but Ethan tries to convince her she has free will and can decide what she wants for her future. She wants to believe him, but struggles with her reality.
The two will have the fight of their lives to stay together and with the odds and her family against them, the couple will have to find a way around Lena going “dark,” in order to live the life they want.
Beautiful Creatures is a New York Times best-selling young adult fantasy book and Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing the story to the big screen on February 13, 2013.
