Zachary Gordon and Robert Capron are still kids, but having covered the entire “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” film series and watching the two grow up over the years, now, more so than ever, it really feels like Im discussing the movie with two adults.
However, the franchises third installment, Dog Days, is just as charmingly silly as the first two. This time around Greg (Gordon) may be more mature, but hed still much rather spend the summer playing videogames than interning at his fathers office. In true Greg Heffley fashion, in order to get out of suffering through a summer in a cubicle, he blurts out the first excuse he can think of; Greg tells his father (Steve Zahn) that he got a job at Rowleys (Capron) familys country club, a country club that Gregs crush, Holly Hills (Peyton List), just happens to belong to.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is filled with tons of crazy antics like a wild ride on the forbidden Cranium Shaker, getting hit with tennis balls, jumping off the high dive and more, but both Gordon and Capron approached the film with a more all-business attitude, as both have aspirations to move into other positions of the film industry, possibly writing, directing and producing.
In honor of the film’s upcoming August 3rd debut, Capron and Gordon hit New York City and took the time to talk about their goals, the wimpy family they built while making the movies and a certain New York City prank in the works as well as a bit about Capron’s role in The Way, Way Back, the next film from The Descendants duo Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, as well as an update on Gordon’s animated film Norm of the North.
