Although the original 2010 mercenaries-on-a-mission film featured Eric Roberts, Bruce Willis and a truly bizarre performance by Mickey Rourke, it was really the third film that took out all the stops in terms of packing the movie like an overstuffed sardine tin filled with stars. Unfortunately it did not translate to big box office, and the series is currently in limbo.
This is the End (2013)

This meta comedy features several of the Apatow crew that became successful in the mid-2000s playing themselves as decadent Hollywood douches caught up in the apocalypse. Michael Cera earns extra points for playing a total creep version of himself.
Love Actually (2003)
STARS: Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Bill Nighy, Rowan Atkinson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andrew Lincoln, Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, January Jones, Elisha Cuthbert, Shannon Elizabeth, Denise Richards and Claudia Schiffer
British writer/director Richard Curtis gathered together all the rom-com superstars for this sprawling film focusing on many couples trying to find romance. He even managed snag a few future stars like The Walking Dead 's Andrew Lincoln.
Ocean's Eleven (2001)

Director Steven Soderbergh remade the 1960 Frank Sinatra extravaganza by putting together a modern-day Rat Pack of superstars, including future Oscar winner Affleck. The formula translated into two more films to form an Ocean's Trilogy , as well as an upcoming all-female spinoff titled Ocean's Eight .
The Thin Red Line (1998)
STARS: Sean Penn, Adrien Brody, Jim Caviezel, Ben Chaplin, George Clooney, John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, Nick Nolte, John C. Reilly, John Travolta, Miranda Otto, Jared Leto, Thomas Jane, John Savage, Tim Blake Nelson and Elias Koteas
After taking a break from filmmaking for twenty years after the critically-acclaimed Days of Heaven , director Terrence Malick managed to wrangle a huge, sprawling cast of stars and future stars. Unfortunately, due to the experimental nature of Malick's process many actors wound up with reduced roles or completely on the cutting room floor, like Mickey Rourke, Bill Pullman, Lukas Haas and a complete three-hour voiceover by Billy Bob Thornton.
Mars Attacks! (1996)
STARS: Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Rod Steiger, Tom Jones, Lukas Haas, Natalie Portman, Jim Brown, Pam Grier, Christina Applegate, Jack Black, Joe Don Baker and Sylvia Sidney
Working at the height of his weirdo powers, Tim Burton created this sprawling, epic satire of 1950's flying saucer films. Unfortunately it came out several months after the more sincere Independence Day, and audiences shied away from what is, both technically and cast-wise, the much better film.
Short Cuts (1993)
STARS: Andie MacDowell, Bruce Davison, Jack Lemmon, Julianne Moore, Matthew Modine, Anne Archer, Fred Ward, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Chris Penn, Lili Taylor, Robert Downey Jr., Madeleine Stowe, Tim Robbins, Frances McDormand, Lyle Lovett, Huey Lewis, Buck Henry, Peter Gallagher, Tom Waits, Lily Tomlin and Alex Trebek
Based on the short stories of Raymond Carver, experienced ensemble director Robert Altman (MASH , Nashville , The Player ) gathered arguably his best roster of actors for this sprawling series of interconnected stories set in Los Angeles. The structure had a profound inspiration on Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia .
The Outsiders (1983)
STARS: C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Diane Lane, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Leif Garrett and Tom Waits
Francis Ford Coppola gathered one of the most impressive casts of rising young thesps to play the greasers of S.E. Hinton's YA masterpiece. Many of the actors involved became known as "The Brat Pack" in the '80s.
1941 (1979)
STARS: Dan Aykroyd, Ned Beatty, John Belushi, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton, Christopher Lee, Tim Matheson, Toshirō Mifune, Warren Oates, Robert Stack, Treat Williams, Nancy Allen, Eddie Deezen, Slim Pickens, Wendie Jo Sperber, John Candy, Patti Lupone, Michael McKean, Joe Flaherty, Mickey Rourke and Elisha Cook Jr.
One of director Steven Spielberg's few career disappointments, 1941 is an anarchic World War II comedy that's full of both old and (at the time) new faces that pushes all the boundaries of scale and good taste. The film has aged well over the years, and the director's cut (in which the great but sadly-forgotten Bobby Di Cicco is the real lead) plays better than the theatrical version.
Murder on the Orient Express (1974)
STARS: Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark and Michael York
Before Kenneth Branagh's version there was Sidney Lumet's star-studded version of Agatha Christie's iconic mystery. Albert Finney is delightfully eccentric in a near-kabuki level performance as Hercule Poirot, and there's a terrific sense of atmosphere throughout.
