Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins Cam Gigandet and Michael Biehn in sci-fi thriller The Shadow Effect
One of the greatest actors of his generation, British thesp Jonathan Rhys Meyers made waves in such films as Velvet Goldmine, Bend it Like Bekham, the Elvis TV miniseries and the short-lived — and awesome! — NBC series Dracula. But, outside of a starring role in TV’s Vikings, you don’t really hear much about the actor appearing in new feature films anymore.
Which is why we’re interested in directors Obin and Amariah Olson’ s new psychological, sci-fi thriller The Shadow Effect, in which Rhys Meyers returns in a central role, joining fellow once-buzzed actors Cam Gigandet (The O.C., The Magnificent Seven) and Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens). Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension’s Brit Shaw also stars.
Synopsis: Obsessed with gene regeneration, and fascinated by the phenomenon of the waking dream, Dr. Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) explores the psyche of Gabriel Howarth (Cam Gigandet), a young man whose life is turned upside down when his violent dreams begin to blend with reality. When Gabriel’s dreams mirror political assassinations, he must race against the clock to not only save himself and his wife Brinn (Britt Shaw), but stop an experimental government program. With time running out, and Gabriel’s life on the line, only Dr. Reese holds the key to unlocking the truth.
The Shadow Effect hits On Demand and Digital HD on May 2nd from Momentum Pictures with a DVD/Blu-ray release to follow at a later date. We have some exclusive photos from the film to share beneath the trailer below. Check them out and tell us your thoughts in the comments section!
