Who Should Play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider Reboot?

We asked this question to ComingSoon.net readers, and after 16,586 votes, there is a favorite among our audience.

Paramount Pictures made two movies starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in 2001 and 2003, but now GK Films is developing a Tomb Raider reboot targeted for a 2013 release.

The writing team of Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will pen the first feature, to be produced by Graham King and Tim Headington. Fergus and Ostby’s credits include Iron Man as well as the upcoming Cowboys & Aliens.

19.2% of ComingSoon.net readers who participated in the poll think that the role of Lara Croft in the reboot should go to “House” and TRON: Legacy star Olivia Wilde! She also stars in Cowboys & Aliens, so perhaps that gives her an advantage with Fergus and Ostby on board? We don’t know, though GK Films has previously said Lara Croft will be “young and dynamic” in the reboot and Wilde is probably in their range as she’s 27 years old.

Coming in at No. 2 and 3, respectively, were “Transformers” star Megan Fox (14.8%) and “Underworld” star Kate Beckinsale (14.4%). They were followed by Eliza Dushku with 9.7% and Gemma Arterton at 7.9% of the votes.

One of the options in the poll said “Other actress not listed,” which received 6.3% of the votes, so we’re curious in the comments below to hear your other suggestions for the role.

7th place belonged to Rhona Mitra with 6.3%. Mitra was a Lara Croft live action model for Eidos’ “Tomb Raider” games before Jolie took the role in the movies. She was ahead of Summer Glau (5.0%), Keira Knightley (4.0%), Eva Green (3.7%), Moon Bloodgood (3.3%) and Jaimie Alexander (3.0%).

Let us know what you think about the above results as we get closer to production. Later this year, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix will also release a new Tomb Raider origins game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC that should keep the franchise in the news.

This week’s poll asks which June release tops your must-see list. You can vote on the right side of the main page!
