Magnolia Pictures has provided ComingSoon.net with an exclusive featurette from director Alex Gibney’s new documentary Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer.
The new movie from the Oscar-winning director of Taxi to the Dark Side–following a previous nomination for Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room–quite literally takes a look at the career of the former New York Governor and Attorney General, and the enemies he made along the way that led to his downfall in early 2008 when it was discovered he had been using state money to pay for high-priced escorts.
The film premiered as a “work in progress” preview at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival where it caused quite a stir with how deeply it goes into not only the famous sex scandal but also the great lengths Spitzer took as Attorney General to expose corruption on Wall Street. To many, in hindsight, Spitzer was seen as someone who may have been able to prevent the economic crash of 2008, had he not slipped up so badly and gotten caught.
The featurette, introduced by Gibney himself, features some of the amazing exclusive interview Spitzer granted to the filmmaker, and gives a good idea of the tone of his new film.
Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer opens in select cities on Friday, November 5, but can be viewed on a number of VOD platforms (via iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, OnDemand, Xbox LIVE and Playstation) right now. Look for our own interview with Gibney closer to the film’s theatrical release.
