Welcome to ComingSoon.net’s look at all the top entertainment hitting this week on Blu-ray and DVD. Check out the gallery viewer below for a look at the major new releases, TV series sets and catalogue titles hitting shelves on Tuesday, June 23.
It’s a pretty quiet week with Survivor being the sole recent theatrical title. Directed by V For Vendetta’s James McTeigue, the action thriller has Milla Jovovich as an Embassy worker who is forced to go head to head with a vicious killer (Pierce Brosnan).
The Criterion Collection has two new additions this week with both Bernhard Wicki’s The Bridge and Terry Gilliam’s The Fisher King. The former, released in 1959, is renowned for being the first anti-war film to come out of Germany following WWII while the latter, starring Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges, won Mercedes Ruehl an Academy Award for her supporting role.
Debuting on Blu-ray for the first time are (via Kino Lorber) Stephen King’s Needful Things and (via Discotek Mediaa) Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. Based on the popular anime series, the 1979 release has the distinction of being the first film directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki.
Flicker Alley has a true gem for cinephiles with 3-D home theaters this week, debuting their 3-D Rarities set, featuring nearly a century’s worth of rare and archival 3-D shorts!
Scream Factory has a treat for horror fans, too, delivering a feature-laden edition of Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers that boasts a lot of newly-created special features.
On the small screen front, Shout! Factory is releasing the “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” spinoff, Young Hercules. Never before available on home video, the DVD set includes the entire series, starring a young Ryan Gosling.
Comedy Central then offers up the fifth season of their popular comedy series, Workaholics.
