Gillian Jacobs and Leighton Meester Talk Life Partners

Landing in select theaters this Friday, director Susanna Fogel’s Life Partners stars Gillian Jacobs (“Community,” the upcoming Hot Tub Time Machine 2) and Leighton Meester (“Gossip Girl,” The Judge) as best friends Paige and Sasha. Despite very different sexual orientations, both women have been friends for years and couldn’t be closer. That is, until Jacob’s Paige begins a serious heterosexual relationship, leaving Meester’s Sasha, about to turn 30, feeling abandoned and worthless. As the rift between them intensifies, both Paige and Sasha begin to question who it is they’ve been and whether or not they need to become someone very different to get what they want out of life.

Fogel also co-wrote the screenplay for Life Partners with her own best friend, Joni Lefkowitz. As Jacobs and Meester explain in the below video interviews with ComingSoon.net, the real-life friendship served as the major inspiration for the film’s storyline. The actresses also discuss building Paige and Sasha’s backstory and share their thoughts on the changing distribution format for independent films.

Also starring Adam Brody (“The OC,” Think Like a Man Too) , Gabourey Sidibe (Precious, “American Horror Story”)  and Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Life,” the upcoming Angry Birds), Life Partners lands in select theaters December 5 and is available now on iTunes and via On Demand.
