DC Direct
We start this week’s column with some very sad news. It has been announced that the recent AT&T/Warner Media reshuffle has left several casualties in its wake, namely massive layoffs at DC Universe, DC Comics and, worst of all, the complete shuttering of collectibles division DC Direct. Begun as DC Direct in 1998, then rebranded to DC Collectibles before briefly returning to the DC Direct moniker this year, the company put out so many amazing products over the years. There was always an emphasis on fidelity to the whatever artists/eras of the comics the statues or figures were trying to emulate. A lot of craft went into each item, and prices were always reasonable. Over the years ComingSoon.net had a wonderful time working with the fine folks at DC Direct, including Executive Director Jim Fletcher, Marketing Associate Amanda Levine and Lindsay Kiesel & Sara Ruiz Hannah of Publicity & Communications. While it is unknown to us at this time what will happen to their forthcoming lines, let’s look back at some of our favorite DC Collectibles/DC Direct unboxing vids from over the years…

Sideshow Collectibles
Sideshow is now shipping the first DC collectible in the Animated Series Collection, the Batman Statue. Inspired by Batman’s iconic animated appearances, this collectible captures the dynamic motion and action-packed energy of the Caped Crusader in a beloved art style. The Batman Statue measures 16” tall, depicting the Dark Knight taking a running leap off of a Gotham rooftop base as bats take wing into the night.
Sideshow is also shipping the Batman (Noir Version) Sixth Scale Figure. He has become one with the night. The Batman (Noir Version) Sixth Scale Figure is cloaked in a tailored fabric Batsuit that gives Bruce Wayne a unique monochromatic appearance. His costume features a grey undersuit with the bat-symbol on the chest, along with dark briefs and his signature bat wing cape. He also wears a pair of black sculpted boots and a pair of ridged gauntlets, along with a grey utility belt. Batman’s head sculpt is inspired by his comic book appearance, wearing a stylized cowl with white eyes creating the iconic silhouette of Gotham City’s vigilant defender.

The success of Halloween was thanks in large part to Michael Myers, the silent stalking figure, clad in faded coveralls and a haunting white mask who prowled the streets of a small town in Illinois. This archetype resonated so well with audiences that filmmakers have been going back to it for decades.
