In 1981, Kathy DiFiore took in her first pregnant teen. In the three decades that have followed, she’s overcome daunting odds to form Several Sources Shelters, a charity organization designed to aid young mothers in need. Gimme Shelter, which hits theaters in a limited release this Friday, serves as writer/director Ron Krauss’ tribute to DiFiore and her work, bringing to the screen the story of fictionalized (but based on fact) Agnes “Apple” Bailey. Stepping into Apple’s shoes is Vanessa Hudgens with Apple’s mother, June Bailey, played by Rosario Dawson.
ComingSoon.net sat down with Hudgens, Dawson, Krauss and DiFiore to talk about the road leading to Gimme Shelter and the complete transformation that both actresses went through to play such severly underprivileged characters. Check out the full interviews in the player below!
Also starring Brendan Fraser, James Earl Jones, Ann Dowd and Dascha Polanco, Gimme Shelter hits theaters January 24.
