Warner Bros. lit the internet on fire with a full list of release announcements, one of which was the fourth installment in The Matrix franchise, which is set to hit theaters on May 21, 2021… the same day as Keanu Reeves’ other highly-anticipated John Wick: Chapter 4! Now, ComingSoon.net is asking our readers which fourquel they intend on seeing on that fateful date on May 21, 2021 (assuming one of the studios doesn’t move their film eventually), so let us know in the poll below which you will be heading to the theater for!

With each successive John Wick movie, the box office has nearly doubled. The first film opened in October 2014 with $14.4 million with Chapter 2 debuting in February 2017 with $$30.4 million, and Chapter 3 arrived in theaters this past weekend with $56.8 million.
The eponymous John Wick is on the run in Parabellum for two reasons. One, he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and two, for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. In this case, a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston (Ian McShane), has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s ‘Excommunicado’ – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.

Halle Berry, Angelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, Mark Dacascos, and Jason Mantzoukas also starred in the third film alongside Yayan Ruhian, Cecep Arif Rahman, and Tiger Hu Chen. Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ruby Rose are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel, with Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine) reportedly playing the main villain. Unfortunately, Common, who stole the show in John Wick: Chapter 2, told us last year that he will be sitting this one out.
Starz’ spin-off series The Continental, meanwhile, has acclaimed writer/producer Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, The Wire) executive producing.
Toby Onwumere (Sense8) recently joined the cast for The Matrix that already includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, and returning cast members Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. It was recently announced that Jada Pinkett Smith is also in talks to reprise her character Niobe in Warner Bros. sequel.
Production on The Matrix 4 is scheduled to begin in early 2020, Wachowski co-wrote the script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell and will direct the film as well.
Plot details on the film also haven’t been revealed, and given the ending of 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions, it’s not a clear cut answer.

Earlier this year we asked our readers if they were interested in more movies in the series, with 69% of those voting saying “Yes!” In a secondary poll, 58% said they wanted to see a continuation of the series. Looks like they’ll be getting what they wanted!
The three previous films—The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003)—have earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office and were all top-10 domestic hits in their respective years of release. The Matrix Revolutions was also the first film ever to release simultaneously in every major country at the same hour around the world.
