With a career that spanned seven decades across nearly all genres and platforms Price is remembered best by mass audiences for his villainous roles in classical horror. His career navigated the evolution of horror with roles in Universal monster classics, Gothic Edgar Allan Poe inspired tales of terror and trips to the dregs of 70s and 80s exploitation/slasher shlock.
But Price always viewed his roles with professionalism, and perhaps with a twist of humor. “I don’t play monsters, I play men besieged by fate and out for revenge.” It was this rationalization and his classical acting chops, peppered with some down home midwestern charm that made him a beloved icon of horror cinema.

Vincent Price Halloween Playlist
-
Dead Heat (1988)
Grab some beers with your buddies for this oddball Buddy-Cop shlock fest. Price's role is small, but the zombie twist will have unsuspecting friends appreciating this selection during the Halloween season.
-
The Monster Club (1981)
This is a perfect (and bizarre) film to play during a Halloween party. The anthology trope combined with the setting in an all-monster night club creates a party atmosphere punctuated by short tales party-goers can drop in and out of. Count how many times your guests stop and ask "what the hell IS this movie?"
-
Theater of Blood (1973)
This Shakespearean murder-fest deserves a spot on any Halloween playlist for the costume changes alone. Bonus points for being Prices favorite horror he ever made.
-
The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)
Halloween is all about creativity, and the thought and planning that went in to the off the wall murders in this film are peek try-hard efforts.
-
Scream and Scream Again (1970)
Vampires, Frankensteins, secret societies: this film checks a whole lot of boxes and will make you think twice about trying to pick up a fellow guest at your next Halloween bash.
-
An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe (1970)
This is the one to put on while carving Jack-o-lanterns. It's an audio more than cinematic journey, perfect for when your eyes are distracted, mutilating that poor pumpkin.
-
The Masque of the Red Death (1964)
It's a horror film about a Satanic costume party. What more is there to say?
-
The Raven (1963)
A good one for the kids. Imagine Vincent Price in a distant Harry Potter universe prequel with Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre and an early career appearance by Jack Nicholson.
-
House on Haunted Hill (1959)
Simply the perfect haunted house party film, rife with tricks and treats for all who are invited.
-
The Fly (1958)
A guy having a mental breakdown inside a latex mask? That's Halloween appropriate in my book.
-
House of Wax (1953)
Price's quintessential horror entry, the launching point of his career in the genre and Halloween perfect, given the colorful costumes and spooky wax museum setting. -
Dragonwyck (1946)
This is a great one for an October date night. Start starring intensely at your partner right as Price lets slip his intent to murder his wife. It's a Halloween trick they wont soon forget.
-
The Invisible Man Returns (1940)
This universal monster classic can scratch that itch for true mayhem and features Price in his heartthrob phase. Unfortunately, Price's true form in the film makes for an impossible Halloween costume inspiration.
