Although next week’s release of Thor: The Dark World marks his first directorial feature in roughly a decade, it’s a good bet that you’ve experienced quite a bit of Alan Taylor’s recent work on the small screen. Helming episodes of “Mad Men,” “Bored to Death” and “Game of Thrones,” Taylor has shown an ability to depict worlds both fantastic and down to Earth, the precise combination that Marvel Studios is targeting with their latest cinematic release.
ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype sat down with Taylor at the London junket for the new film and spoke to him about his transition between mediums, his history with Marvel comics and the importance of grounding a blockbuster film with practical effects. Taylor also lets slip an interesting tidbit about Avengers: Age of Ultron. It seems that a certain plotline in The Dark World had to be removed so that it could be featured in the Joss Whedon film.
