NYCC Exclusive: Lucy Fry & Dominic Sherwood on Vampire Academy

Enough supernatural creature/human relationships. Come February 14, 2014, you’ll get the chance to check out a straight vampire-on-vampire romance in Vampire Academy.

Lucy Fry stars as Lissa Dragomir, a Moroi vampire studying at St. Vladimir’s Academy. While she’s studying subjects like Basics of Elemental Control, her best friend, Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch), is taking classes like Weight Training and Conditioning because Rose is a Dhampir, half Moroi and half human, and upon graduation, it’ll be her job to protect Lissa from the Strigoi, a malicious and immortal breed of vampires.

Even though she’s still only a guardian-in-training, Rose takes her job very seriously, so she isn’t pleased when Lissa starts hanging around the school outcast, Dominic Sherwood’s Christian Ozera. When Christian was young, his parents turned Strigoi willingly, so now all of his classmates think he’s on the verge of doing the same – all but Lissa.

After four years of “The Twilight Saga,” it’s understandable if you’ve had your fill of vampire flings, but both Sherwood and Fry insist they’ve got something special here and that it’s directly connected to the fact that even though they’re vampires, Christian and Lissa share a very human, relatable connection.

While ringing in Vampire Academy‘s February 2014 release at New York Comic Con, ComingSoon.net got the chance to chat with Sherwood and Fry about snagging their roles, overcoming early romance jitters, tapping into the characters’ dark pasts, and more.
