How Could Endgame Effect Ant-Man 3?

Now that Avengers: Endgame is in wide release, ComingSoon.net wants to speculate on what effect the events of the blockbuster could have on the story in an eventual Ant-Man 3. BEWARE SPOILERS!!!

So several huge things happen to Scott Lang in Endgame. For one, he’s thrust through a quantum time vortex five years into the future long after the “Snapture” has turned half of humanity into dust. Fortunately his beloved daughter Cassie is still alive but five years older. This leaves Scott in the unenviable position of having missed at least three years of his daughter’s life in prison and another five through a time mishap. After the warm glow of his return wears off will Cassie (now played by Emma Fuhrmann, replacing the younger Abby Ryder Fortson) become resentful of Scott or wind up joining him on his adventures with the resurrected Hope and Hank?

There’s also the matter of Scott’s status as an outlaw. Up until now Scott Lang has been on the periphery of being a superhero, both within the Avengers and in society at large, with police and at times other Avengers trying to take him down, and Hank always trying to keep his suit under wraps from the powers that be. What happens when Scott becomes a full-fledged superhero/full-time Avenger? One that kids won’t be embarrassed to have their picture taken with at a diner?

Another big question the film raises is who will fund and provide infrastructure/evolving technology for The Avengers now that Tony Stark is dead and Avengers Headquarters is decimated? Hank Pym could fill the gap by using the emerging shrinking and quantum/time technologies he developed to provide cashflow and new inventions/suits to the team. He was seen at Tony Stark’s funeral, indicating that the bad blood between him and the Stark family may have mellowed.

There is also the matter of the mysterious parties that A) purchased Avengers Tower in New York in Spider-Man: Homecoming and B) Sonny Burch’s unnamed tech buyers in Ant-Man and The Wasp. There has long been speculation that both those parties could be Reed Richards and The Fantastic Four, with Avengers Tower eventually being transformed into The Baxter Building. It could also be their arch-nemisis, Victor Von Doom, with the shenanigans in the Quantum Realm opening up the possibility of Galactus and The Silver Surfer paying a visit as well.

Given that Ant-Man franchise director Peyton Reed was originally working on a Fantastic Four movie in the early 2000s, and has said he would like to revisit the property again, don’t be surprised if a third film in the trilogy is titled Ant-Man and The Fantastic Four. Now, it should be noted that no official announcement has been made for a third Ant-Man, but given that every franchise in the MCU that had a second movie eventually had or will have a third movie you can bet it will happen. The fact is that the Pym Particle technology is the most powerful in the entire franchise, with far-reaching consequences that the filmmakers have only begun to scratch the surface of.

Endgame is the follow-up to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, which saw the titular superhero team take the fight to Thanos in order to stop his attempt at exterminating half of the universe’s population with the Infinity Stones. But it was to no avail, as he was able to successfully collect them all and snap his fingers, wiping out half of all life from existence in a cloud of ash. The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films.

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Sean Gunn, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan and Josh Brolin as Thanos.
