ComingSoon.net is counting down our five favorite movies and TV shows starring Olivia Munn, who has managed to secure plenty of great roles since transitioning from journalism to acting. Check out our choices in the gallery below!
After originally starting out her career as a television journalist on the former video game-centric television network G4, Olivia Munn transitioned into television and feature film work early in the 2010s. Her big break came in the form of a Daily Show correspondent, where she remained for just one year before moving onto bigger and better things.
Now known for her roles in multiple superhero films across two different cinematic universes, her various appearances in big-budget studio comedies, and her dramatic work on television, Munn is practically a household name at this point. She’s only been in the acting game since 2010 or so, but she has nowhere to go but up at this point. As she continues to rack up credits, it’s worth looking at her best performances so far.

Magic Mike (2012)
Steven Soderbergh’s underrated male stripper drama from 2012 revolves around a 19-year-old looking to get a start in the world of male stripping in Miami, Florida. He’s guided along by Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey’s characters, with the former playing the love interest for Olivia Munn. She might not have returned for the sequel, but that doesn’t make her performance in the first any less great.
-
The Newsroom (2012-2014)
Famous screenwriter Aaron Sorkin is no stranger to the ways of television—in fact, he’s perhaps most known for his television show The West Wing that aired back in the late 90s and early 2000s. His second big show was HBO’s The Newsroom, which saw Olivia Munn playing a key part in the inner workings of a popular cable news network. The show featured storylines straight from the headlines and showcases all kinds of great actors giving it their all (even if the writing is frequently quite trite).
-
The LEGO Ninjago Movie (2017)
The LEGO franchise has proved time and time again to be one of the most original and hilarious series of films around. Its least-seen entry, at least according to box office numbers, is The LEGO Ninjago Movie. It’s based on the popular series of LEGO toys (the most successful original property of theirs, which explains why they felt it was a viable option for a feature film), following a group of ninjas-in-training tasked with protecting their town from their leader’s evil dad. Olivia Munn voices Koko, the mother of the protagonist (and ex-wife of the antagonist).
-
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
After doing a soft reboot of the X-Men franchise with Days of Future Past back in 2014, the film was followed by a rocky sequel titled X-Men: Apocalypse. Starring Oscar Isaac as the titular villain, the movie was mostly panned by critics but met with largely positive response from X-Men fans. Olivia Munn plays Psylocke, a villain who joins Apocalypse and Magneto in their quest for world destruction or domination (whichever comes first).
-
Iron Man 2 (2010)
The middle installment in the Iron Man trilogy, Iron Man 2 features an electric whip-wielding villain and the introduction of the dynamic heroine Black Widow. In addition to this, the film also has Olivia Munn in a minor role as Chess Roberts, an obscure comic book character who managed to make her way into the early part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was just getting started in the industry at this point, so it’s interesting to see how much potential she brings to an otherwise tiny role.
