There are a couple of things that set Roland Emmerich’s new invasion action-thriller White House Down apart from his previous movies involving alien invaders or giant lizard invaders or even bigger city-destroying natural disasters. Besides being grounded in our own world, he somehow managed to score two of the hottest actors working today, Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, and realized that the two guys would have the kind of on-screen chemistry that creates summer movie magic.
Foxx plays President James Sawyer, who is in the middle of some serious attempts to create peace in the Middle East when terrorists break into the White House set on capturing him and getting important nuclear launch codes. With the Secret Service out of the picture, it comes down to a DC police officer named John Cale–Tatum’s character–to step up and fight off the armed militia men and protect President Sawyer.
ComingSoon.net had a chance to sit down with the two A-list actors at the Washington, D.C. junket for their new movie and while they didn’t seem to have that much energy to talk about White House Down by the time we sat down with them, we did get to ask Foxx why we’ve barely seen anything of his Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (compared to Paul Giamatti’s Rhino) and Tatum told us how he’s excited to get back to the comedy world of 22 Jump Street after doing a drama and a movie with the Wachowskis.
White House Down opens nationwide on Friday, June 28. You can watch our interview with director Roland Emmerich by clicking here.
