Tamil star Jayam Ravi recently returned to the big screens with the action thriller Siren. The film had an average run in the theaters. Later, it made its digital debut on Disney+ Hotstar and attracted more viewers. Besides Ravi, the movie also stars Keerthy Suresh and Anupama Parameswaran as supporting characters.
Siren follows the story of Thilagan, a former ambulance driver and a murder convict. However, the main question is whether he actually killed his wife.
Did Thilagan murder his wife?
Siren begins with a glimpse of a mysterious murder. However, it transitions to a scene from a school competition where Malar gives an inspiring speech about her father. While she describes him as a gentleman, it turns out that her father, Thilagavarman aka Thilagan, is in jail, serving a sentence for the murder of his wife. Later, after 14 years, Thilagan gets out on a two-week parole to visit his father. Learning about her father’s return, Malar leaves to stay with her aunt.
Thilagan often reminisces about his time with his wife and the birth of his daughter. As he steps into the real world, a series of drastic events take place simultaneously. The story introduces the viewers to Manickam, a corrupt politician. During one of his outings, Manickam is killed by Manikandan, a hitman of Anbu, the former’s ally. At the same time, Thilagan arrives at the same bar where Manickam was stabbed to death.
At this point, Nandhini (Keerthy Suresh) is called to inspect the murder. On the other hand, Velankanni, the constable, takes Thilagan to Anbu to sell his land. However, it turns out that Anbu already knows Thilagan and gets into a brawl. However, Thilagan ends up killing Anbu by poisoning his asthma inhaler.
In a turn of events, Nandhini is blamed for Anbu’s murder, but she does not give up on the case. Although she arrests Thilagan as a suspect in Anbu’s murder, the lack of evidence plays in favor of the protagonist. As the story moves forward, it is confirmed that Thilagan did not kill his wife but was instead framed in the murder.
Siren ending explained: How was Thilagan framed for the murder?
The plot thickens when Vicky’s corpse is discovered to be buried under Thilagan’s land. As Nandhini proceeds with her investigation, she arrests Manikandan and interrogates him. She soon realizes that Thilagan was not involved in Vicky’s murder. Instead, Manikandan killed Vicky when he did not obey his orders. Moreover, Manikandan also admits to murdering Manickam. However, this does not make Nandhini close the case.
The story then takes its viewers 14 years back when Thilagan was an ambulance driver. One day, on his duty, he meets Jennifer, a beautiful deaf and mute nurse. After they fall in love, they tie the knot and have their daughter, Malar. Their domestic bliss is disrupted when Thilagan goes to save his friend Kathir from Anbu. Kathir was in love with Inspector Nagalingam’s sister, but the latter did not accept their relationship. Besides Kathir, Manickam also threatens Thilagan, but he is unfazed. As a result, he stabs Jennifer in front of Thilagan. Thilagan rushes Jennifer to the hospital, but unfortunately, she dies.
It is then revealed that Thilagan first tortured Manickam, and later, Manikandan and Vicky killed him. As Nandhini learns about Thilagan’s plan, she realizes he is after Nagalingam’s life. Thilagan kidnaps Nagalingam and beats him to death. He avenges Jennifer’s murder and accepts his future. However, he does not get caught for the murders.
In the end, Thilagan returns to the prison, and Nandhini tells Malar about the trust. Malar visits her father in jail, and the two reconcile.
