Vijay Deverakonda’s latest family drama, The Family Star, has arrived on OTT. The movie was anticipated as fans looked forward to breaking box office records. However, the film opened up to mixed reviews and did not attract much audience. The underwhelming performance of the movie resulted in a early digital debut.
While the movie struggled to break even in the theaters, its performance on the OTT giant Amazon Prime Video is above expectations.
Vijay Deverakonda’s Family Star Tops Amazon Prime Video Chart
The Vijay Deverakonda starrer arrived on Amazon Prime Video on April 26, 2024, in Telugu and Tamil. The family romance drama did not follow the four-week pattern as the makers seemingly anticipated a better response on OTT. The movie is currently topping the trending chart on Amazon Prime Video.
Despite the brutal criticism, the movie has reached the No. 1 position on the streaming service. This is the film’s first week on the platform, and its performance in the coming week will confirm whether the digital debut has changed its fate.
Besides Deverakonda, the movie saw Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur playing the leading lady. Abhinaya, Vennela Kishore, Rohini Hattangadi, Ravi Babu, and others portrayed supporting characters.
The Family Star’s official synopsis reads, “Govardhan (Vijay Deverakonda), a devoted architect from Hyderabad, juggles supporting his extended family while seeking a partner who understands his commitments. When he discovers Indu (Mrunal Thakur) thesis on his family, he challenges her, leading to unexpected twists as they navigate misunderstandings and eventually find love amidst sacrifice and understanding.”
Parasuram Petla helmed and wrote the movie, which was bankrolled by Dil Raju and Sirish under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner. It marked the second collaboration between Petla and Deverakonda. They earlier worked together in Geetha Govindam, which starred Rashmika Mandanna. The movie was a smash hit in the Telugu-speaking states, so fans had the same expectations with The Family Star.
