Celebrated director SS Rajamouli’s last movie, RRR, scripted history in Indian cinema. While the movie minted a whopping amount at the box office, it made waves across the globe. Its plot, songs, picturization, casting, and everything else came out to be commendable. Moreover, it became the first Indian production to win an Oscar under the Best Original Song category.

The movie revolves around two freedom fighters who go the extra mile to free their country from British rule. As the two lead characters were based on legendary freedom fighters, was RRR based on a real story? Scroll down to find out.

Who were Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem from RRR?

RRR is a completely fictional story constructed by SS Rajamouli and his father, Vijayendra Prasad. However, the movie is based on the lives of Telugu freedom fighters, namely Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaran Bheem, played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR respectively. According to India Today, in real life, Alluri Sitaram Raju and Komaran Bheem led two different revolutionary movements, but not once did they ever meet.

Born in 1987, Alluri Sitarama Raju headed the Rampa Rebellion. Through this movement, he stood against the British Madras Forest Act of 1882, which prohibited the tribals from cultivating local crops. He was fondly known as the hero of the forest by the locals. While his life came to an end in 1924, his will to fight against the British government lived for a very long time.

On the other hand, Komaran Bheem hailed from the Gond tribal community who were against the Nizams of Hyderabad. His life changed after the forest department killed his father which was followed by a long struggle. Until he finally built an army but was killed by the Nizams during one of his battles against the British.

In conclusion, Rajamouli brought an imaginative story to the big screens, describing how the two freedom fighters would have fought the British government if they were together.
