Showtime trailer highlights power struggles in showbiz

On February 13, producer Karan Johar took to his social media to share the trailer for Showtime. He captioned the post with, “Cinemas aur pardein ke peeche ka cinema! #HotstarSpecials #Showtime streaming March 8th only on Disney+ Hotstar!”

The series trailer sees Emraan Hashmi’s character, Raghu Khanna, declaring his inheritance of the family studio. He is the son of a renowned producer, portrayed by Naseeruddin Shah. He starts his journey to transform the cinematic powerhouse by focusing on creating mainstream Bollywood blockbusters that bring in profits. However, he finds himself challenged by a journalist, Mahika Nandy, who aspires to become a filmmaker.

Later, during a confrontation, Mahika tells Raghu, “Aab maal bechiye mein filmy banaugi (You sell a product, I will make films).” He then dissects the hypocrisy under such statements and says, “Nepotism ke mukhaute ke peeche aakhir mein har outsider insider banna chahta hai (In the end, every outsider wants to become an insider behind the facade of nepotism).”

The trailer also shows Mouni Roy and Rajeev Khandelwal as struggling actors who are trying to remain relevant. Rapper Badshah’s cameo appearance is also seen in the clip.

Stream Showtime on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8, 2024.
