Canadian genre film imprint United Front locks deal with Universal Pictures
Rising from the ashes of Anchor Bay Enterntainment’s Canadian offices, United Front Entertainment (UFE) has been making waves lately acquiring and distributing an expanding roster of genre films including a slate of horror films from Canada’s Black Fawn Films (Black Fawn’s latest, Bed of the Dead, is pictured above). Today they announced an exciting new exclusive deal with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) to ensure future acquisitions for UFE gain DVD and Blu-ray distribution to retail locations across Canada. UPHE will take on manufacturing and distribution of the UFE titles for the next three years.
“UPHE Canada’s distribution capabilities will ensure that UFE titles will receive the best retail and consumer exposure,” said Rob Herholz, Co-founder of United Front Entertainment. “We have the perfect home entertainment partner in UPHE. They have maintained an entertainment legacy for over a century. The fact that they are willing to support UFE in its infancy speaks volumes about their belief in our collective vision.”
While Universal will be responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of United Front titles throughout Canadian retail locations, Susan Curran and the UFE marketing team will have control over marketing and promotions, and Dev Harracksingh will head up the direct sales of United Front titles.
The initial slate of titles for United Front include their recent acquisition of five Black Fawn Films titles; which was completed during the Fantasia Frontieres Market. The first official DVD/Blu-ray release for UFE will be BITE, which hits retail locations on September 6.
