Killer clown flick Clowntown locks theatrical and home video release
With horror fans buzzing about the in-production remake of Stephen King’s IT and Eli Roth’s Clown coming off a successful run before its home video release later this month (August 15 to be exact), not to mention fans slobbering over the impending appearance of Rob Zombie’s 31, there’s even more Big Top terror coming to keep your nose – and everything else – red.
ITN Distribution, Inc. have acquired the North American rights to Tom Nagel’s horror thriller Clowntown. The deranged circus shocker will roll out in theaters starting September 30th, 2016 and on VOD and DVD on October 4, 2016.
Clowntown tells the story of a group of friends who get stranded in a seemingly abandoned town and find themselves stalked by a gang of violent psychopaths dressed as clowns. It is loosely inspired by the clowns who terrorized Bakersfield, CA in 2014.
Yes. This sorta really happened.
Clowntown was produced by Jeff Miller, Tom Nagel, Brian Nagel, Christopher Lawrence Chapman, and Ronnie D. Lee. Robert Kurtzman (creator of From Dusk Till Dawn) co-produced. David H. Greathouse (Syfy’s “Face/Off,” Tusk) handled the bulk of the makeup FX. Stuart Alson of ITN Distribution negotiated the deal along with Jeff Miller and CT Films LLC on behalf of the filmmakers. Archstone Distribution is handling foreign sales.
