IFC Midnight will distribute the Cabin Fever remake
First announced last October, a Cabin Fever remake is on the way. IFC Midnight today announced that they have picked up North American distribution rights to the film, directed by Travis Z, which is coming to theaters in 2016.
As with the original, the Cabin Fever remake follows a group of college students who rent a cabin in the woods to do some partying, begin to fall victim to a flesh-eating virus, and all hell breaks loose.
Eli Roth is executive producing the Cabin Fever remake, which was reshot from the original 2002 script by Eli Roth and Randy Pearlstein. It stars Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf), Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3), Samuel Davis (From Dusk Till Dawn), Matthew Daddario (Delivery Man) and Nadine Crocker (Deadgirl).
“Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it,” said Roth last year. “I almost see this like re-staging a play, and Im excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. Theyre all fans of the original and want to make a film thats a new classic and I believe they will.”
“It was a great opportunity to recreate an iconic film for a new generation of horror fans,” says Z. “I am a die hard fan of horror films and the king of horror Eli Roth trusted me to re-imagine his film. I was not going to fail.”
The original premiered at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival with Elwes involved in a massive bidding war for the film.
Producers on the Cabin Fever remake include Evan Astrowsky, Christopher Lemole and Tim Zajaros with Cassian Elwes, Jerry Fruchtman, Peter Fruchtman and Ike and Jaclyn Suri executive producing alongside Roth.
