Unexpected in its hyper-stylized, trashy, vicious fun, Alfonso Gomez-Rejons remake of the Charles B. Pierce cult favorite, The Town That Dreaded Sundown will see an awaited home release next month.
Released quietly to iTunes, Epix and quickly to streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix Instant, horror fans who enjoyed the film thoroughly have asked about a physical release. Out July 7th on DVD and Blu (the latter a Best Buy exclusive) from RLJ/Image, The Town That Dreaded Sundown 2014 is arriving apparently barebones.
In the film, Rejon (whose Sundance-winning Me and Earl and the Dying Girl hits theaters today) incorporates Peirces film into the narrative. Set in a present day Texarkana, where theres annual screening of the original film, a new Phantom killer strikes. Rejon goes nuts with sweeping cameras, diopter shots, big color and a mean spirit.
