Scream the TV Series: Here

In some blend of the iconic Ghostface and a contestant on America’s Best Dance Crew, the new Ghostface mask in MTV’s upcoming Scream the TV Series. Alabaster and eerie, this is perhaps a sleek update on that seen in the films, while also hinting at a more grotesque visage beneath.

“…it’s still first and foremost evocative of the Scream mask. It’s sort of a reinvention while also paying homage,” says Scream the TV Series exec producer Jill Blotevogel. She’s correct. It’s certainly of a piece with the original, if noticeably slicker. But what’s going on in the dark side of this photo’s moon?

If you’ll remember, early comments on the mask from MTV’s head of scripted development Mina Lefevre pegged the mask as “fleshy.” Did they simply move in a different direction, or was she referring to what’s underneath. One of the first trailers for Scream the TV Series flashed the photo below, clearly that of someone disfigured and very likely in the shape of this new mask once we get the whole picture.

EW, who premiered the photo also spoke to Scream director and horror great Wes Craven. His thoughts: ““The new mask is cool and scary and takes the series into a new direction.  It also ties into the story, which I won’t give away.”

Scream the TV Series stars Bex Taylor-Klaus, Willa Fitzgerald, John Karna, Connor Weil and Amadeus Serafini. Jamie Travis directs the pilot. In it, ““After a cyber-bullying incident results in a brutal murder, the shocking violence stirs up memories of a  killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. A group of teens – with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart – become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of a killer who’s out for blood.”
