Hannibal Season 3 Featurette: Your First Look at the Red Dragon

“Season 3 is like a blank slate,” says Carole Dhavernas in the first look featurette at the highly anticipated new season of Hannibal. Though sharp and atmospheric as ever, Hannibal promises a new locale—with Hannibal and Bedelia entrenched in Italian society—and first real dip into proper adaptation. Through story elements from  Red Dragon and Hannibal (the novels) have appeared in the series, Season Three will actually partly prove a staging of the former, with Richard Armitage essaying serial killer Francis Dolarhyde (aka The Tooth Fairy). Here lies our first look at the murderer.

It’s known now that in addition to the continuing evolution of both Hannibal & Will Graham’s relationship and Hannibal & Bedelia’s relationship (“This is participation”), Hannibal  Season 3 will jump forward in time to a wedded Will (Nina Arianda plays his wife), who must contend with Francis. The below featurette touches on Dolarhyde, briefly exposing his now infamous tattooing. We’re also privy to a recast and facially restructured (but still totally mangled) Mason Verger.

Hannibal Season 3 returns June 4th. The premiere, “Antipasto” is directed by Vincenzo Natali and according to series creator Bryan Fuller, “takes place over four different periods of time.” Natali also helms second and third installments, “Primavera” and “Secondo.” Meanwhile, The Descent‘s Neil Marshall handles Episode 8, entitled “The Great Red Dragon.”
