Universal Pictures is sitting down for another go round with Parker Bros.’ famous talking board. It was just announced that Ouija 2 will see release on Friday, October 21, 2016. The date was already set by Blumhouse Pictures for a previously untitled horror project.
In Ouija 2, the sequel to fall 2014s sleeper hit that opened number one at the box office, a group of unsuspecting friends must confront their most terrifying fears when they unleash an evil from the other side that only they can send back. The next chapter of the supernatural thriller series inspired by the ancient spirit board is once again produced by Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Purge series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Blumhouse Productions Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, upcoming Jem and the Holograms), alongside Hasbros Brian Goldner (Transformers and G.I. Joe series,Jem and the Holograms) and Stephen Davis (Jem and the Holograms).
Ouija, which stars Douglas Smith, Olivia Cooke, Daren Kagasoff, Ana Coto and Bianca Santos, was released last October and grossed just over $100 million at the worldwide box office.
The October 21 date will see Ouija 2 opening opposite Dean Devlin’s GeoStorm.
Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard (Oculus) are writing Ouija 2. Universal will distribute the film worldwide.
