In whats being called The Amityville Horror meets Downton Abbey (or maybe, more apropros is Upstairs, Downstairs) director Wes Craven is developing a series based on The People Under the Stairs at Syfy, alongside another show entitled We Are All Completely Fine.
Deadline reports Craven, who directed the awesome, absurd 1991 class warfare horror-comedy The People Under the Stairs, has signed a first look deal with Universal Cable Productions. The Stairs adaptation concerns a young woman who goes missing at the grand Robeson Family Manor. Her search unveils the centuries-old horrors that lie deep within the estate. Michael Reisz (Shadowhunters) will script.
Meanwhile, We Are All Completely Fine is based on a novel by Daryl Gregory in which psychologist Dr. Jan Sayer leads a support group for survivors of horror movie-like scenarios. As their traumas are brought back to the surface, they uncover which monsters they face are within and which are lurking in plain sight.
Craven will write and potentially direct the We Are All Completely Fine pilot. Dawn Olmstead, EVP of Universal Cable Productions says, Wes is an icon whose films have captivated audiences for decades. Were thrilled to be working with him and to be able to bring his enormous talent and unique blend of horror, humor and intelligence to television.
Cravens Scream sees a series adaptation premiere this June on MTV. Though credited as executive producer, the filmmaker has had little-to-no involvement with the production.
