Alan Rickman will star in the feature adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s novel Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem, now simply titled The Limehouse Golem. Written by The Woman in Black and Kingsman scirbe Jane Goldsman, the 1880-set London murder mystery is to be directed by Painless‘ Juan Carlos Medina.
Rickman (Die Hard, The Harry Potter films) will star alongside Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel, the upcoming Me, Earl and the Dying Girl) and Douglass Booth (Noah, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) in the film about a series of murders in London’s Limehouse district. As the title would indicate, the murders prove so ghastly, they come to be attributed to the work of a Golem, the ancient creature crafted from mud.
Lionsgate will distribute The Limehouse Golem in the U.K. and Ireland. Producer Stephen Wooley says it “has a more sensational twist than The Crying Game.” [Variety]
