Following last years blockbuster take on the character from Legendary and director Gareth Edwards, famed studio Toho will produce the first Japanese Godzilla film since 2004s Final Wars, revealing Hideaki Anno & Shinji Higuchi as filmmakers.
Ever since Hollywood announced that Godzilla was to be resurrected, the expectation for another Japanese Godzilla grew. And if we were to newly produce, we looked into Japanese creators who were the most knowledgeable and who had the most passion for Godzilla Toho said.
Variety reports the two, who previously collaborated on Evangelion and Studio Ghilbi short Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo, will approach the developing Godzilla from different sides. Anno is writing, while Higuchi is expected to oversee VFX.
Godzilla 2016 will be the 29th Toho Godzilla film. The legacy of course began with Ishir? Hondas classic 1954 film, Gojira. Meanwhile, Legendary and Edwards continue the stateside Godzilla series June 8, 2018.
