UK Trailer: German Fest Hit, The Samurai (aka Der Samurai)

2014 fest favorite The Samurai (aka Der Samurai) is bringing its small town, all night, identity crisis rage to the UK.

The Samurai, which played the Tribeca Film Festival and Film 4 FrightFest, among many others, is violent, dreamy film. Its description as a “fascinating journey into the sexual heart of darkness” is entirely correct. In the film, “on the edge of a dark forest, where the fear of wolves prevents locals from straying too far from home, a young police officer, Jakob receives a package addressed to the ‘Lone Wolf’. As the night shift starts a mysterious caller claims the package belongs to him. Venturing out alone, Jakob unknowingly delivers a samurai sword to a wild-eyed man in a wedding dress, who entices him to participate in a bloody crusade through the village. As night wanes something hidden is unleashed to meet the first rays of daylight…”

The Samurai is on DVD and On Demand in the UK this April 13th. If you’re in Boston, you can catch the film this weekend at the Boston Underground Film Festival, alongside new fest titles like We Are Still HereExcess Flesh and Goodnight Mommy (all super recommended).
