Creator Chris Carter and iconic stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are set to officially return to The X-Files in a six-episode event series, projected to begin production this summer.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.” FOX ordered the series and announced today, with further details, like anticipated airdates, expected later on. Carter’s “six stories” quote however, seems to tease separate files as the focus.
“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Filesone of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careersand we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” remarked Gary Newman and Dana Walden, Chairmen and CEOs of FOX Television Group. “The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”
The X-Files premiered in September of 1993 and ran for nine seasons and 202 episodes, spawning two films, a spin-off and a line of comics. Now that the series is returning, you can be certain Ill be wearing my Chain of Strength-esque Scully & Mulder youth crew tee for its entire run.
