From the dead rising to Lucy Lawless, the queen b’s of Salem seem to be bringing out all the stops in the impending Witch War.
I’ve not yet finished Season One of WGN America’s period-set witch series. What I did enjoy was its seeming mean streak and willingness to get ghastly and pulpy in its fiery, supernatural melodrama. With the existence of witches no longer a debate and this promised battle (still unclear if it’s between the town and witches, witches and witches, or both), Season Two (still unclear if it’s properly subtitled Witch War) looks like it’s upping all of that, with muck and black blood-covered ghouls, hands emerging from graves, enlisting the undead and the histrionics of that fey preacher dude who creeps me out.
Salem returns April 5th on WGN America. Its second season is officially described as follows: As the disease and devastation unleashed by a deadly supernatural ritual spread through the war-torn village, Salem’s most powerful witch, Mary Sibley, must face off against adversaries old and new who are vying for her throne.
