Many horror films have received small platform theatrical releases over the past few years (often in conjunction with a VOD release) but few have done as well as David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows. Opening in just four theaters in New York and L.A. on Friday the 13th, it grossed an estimated $163,000 this weekend, averaging a solid $40,000 per venue.
After running the festival circuit since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival way back in May 2014, Mitchell’s hugely popular horror film follows Maika Monroe’s Jay who starts experiencing nightmarish visions after having a casual sexual encounter.
The film’s distributor RADiUS-TWC is going to expand It Follows into a lot more cities next Friday, and you can find out where you can see the film theatrically on its Official Site.
